Kelechi Iheanacho, who was named Player of the Month for the month of March, has been rewarded by Leicester City with a contract extension keeping him at the club until 2024.
Life is good at the moment for the Nigerian forward, Kelechi Iheanacho. Not only is he getting regular minutes at the expense of Jamie Vardy’s injury but he is banging in goals and turning back into the promising star he was always predicted to be.
Straight after finding the form that saw Manchester City sign him and sell him with a reported buyback clause of £50 million, Brendan Rodgers and the club have repaid him with a contract extension retaining his services for another four years.
"After agreeing a new deal to 2024, striker Kelechi Iheanacho spoke of the support he has received from his Leicester City team-mates and the Football Club’s backroom staff.Having scooped March’s EA SPORTS Premier League Player of the Month accolade, Iheanacho committed his future to the Foxes following a rich vein of form in recent weeks. Even with Vardy back and fully fit following his rush operation back in January, Kelechi cannot be left out of the starting XI. Rodgers has opted to start the striking duo alongside each other for the last five fixtures across all competitions.

It has not been an easy run for the African since making the switch from the Etihad to the King Power Stadium. Following his move back in 2017 from City to City, Iheanacho has struggled to get consistent starts for the club.
It has been unquestionably difficult to try and do so while having to outplay the world-class and always scoring, Jamie Vardy. It would be like this for any player coming in and trying to lead the line ahead of him.
Playing behind the Englishman and only affording himself 12 starts for the most in a Premier League campaign, gave him the idea it could be time to seek regular minutes elsewhere.
For continuous transfer windows the player was linked with multiple moves abroad, some even outside of England. This was as far back as 2019 when the exit talks or calls for an Iheanacho sale came to life.
Now he is finding his feet at Leicester City
How to give your most in-form striker a major boost ahead of playing the best team in the league this season? Offer him a new contract just before matchday and announce the amazing news on gameday.
The Foxes are making the right moves and are on route to pulling the double over Pep Guardiola’s ruthless Manchester City for the first time since 1986-87. The last time the pair met the Foxes ran riot and beat the log leaders 2-5.
They can already brag being one of the few teams to beat the Cityzens this league campaign – winning the double will just confirm the improvement of the club under Rodgers.
Kelechi Iheanacho will not only be looking to add to his five goals in his last three EPL games but also better his best for a season – which he is two away from doing.
His best of eight goals scored came while at Man City and it would be a major statement if he was to reach his best or surpass it against his former club.
It would also certainly make Pep think about a Kelechi return in the midst of Sergio Aguero leaving the Etihad at the end of the season.
