Monday brought forward some disappointing but expected news, Sergio Aguero announced he will be quitting Manchester City at the end of the season.

"AGUEROOOOOO… I swear, you’ll never see anything like this ever again."

On May 13th, 2012, the unprecedented happened. The goal from Sergio Aguero against Queen Park Rangers shocked Manchester United fans and sent Manchester City fans bonkers.

Not only them, but Martin Tyler also rose to fame with his ecstatic commentary and one line during the historic Man City moment. Such was the worth of the goal on the final day of the league campaign that season.

The goal not only led Manchester City to their first-ever Premier League title but also laid the foundation for similar events to unfold at the Etihad for years to come.

Roberto Mancini, the man who must be thanked for bringing Sergio Aguero to Manchester City and the English Premier League

More from Manchester City

Roberto Mancini convinced his owners to sign Sergio Aguero from the Spanish outfit, Atletico Madrid. The club didn’t hesitate and listened to the then manager and bought him for a fee of €40 million in the summer transfer window of 2011.

The player made the fanbase fall in love with him immediately, entertaining them with his goals and assists. In his first season in England, the striker scored 23 goals and assisted nine times in his 31 starts. Of them all, his goal in the dying embers on the final day in 2012 will always be the most unforgettable for the City fans.

The team was down by a goal when Manchester City entered injury time. Mario Balotelli teed up his striking partner and the Argentine put the last chance of the game away for the win.

The QPR players were stunned while the sheer noise in the stadium was almost unbearable. Martin Tyler’s poetic commentary on the day rubbed salt in Manchester United fans and players’ wounds.

His personal best season in England’s top flight was in 2014/15. The player scored with almost every opportunity that came his way. He had 34 G/A to his name under Manuel Pellegrini’s management. However, City ended up second that season.

Barring his injury setbacks, Sergio Aguero consistently clocked 24+ G/A in English Premier League football. In his 10 seasons, Sergio Aguero sits fourth on the list of all-time highest goalscorers.

The announcement of the 32-year-old leaving the Etihad at the end of the season has not come as a shock for City fans but it definitely has them shedding a tear.

Sergio Aguero took to social media to announce his departure from Manchester City on Monday evening, stating:

He has it all excluding that elusive Champions League gold medal

The player has won everything in England with Man City. Under all of Roberto Mancini, Manuel Pellegrini and Pep Guardiola, Aguero has four Premier League trophies with the fifth one waiting for him. He also has five EFL Cups and one FA Cup.

Individually, he has a Golden Boot award to his name for being the top scorer in the 2014/15 EPL season. City, having bottled all of their knockout games in the Champions League has left Kun Aguero without a Champions League title.

However, the player can fulfill his dream in the upcoming days of the season. Manchester City have Borussia Dortmund in the quarterfinals of the UCL on April 6th. It will be interesting to see if Aguero will feature for his side after his huge announcement.

No matter what club one might support, it is heartbreaking to see a player of Aguero’s stature leaving the club without much game-time in his final season.

He has featured in just eight games and has a single goal to his name. With the title race almost done and dusted and in City’s favor, Sergio Aguero might be given an opportunity for a “Last Dance” at the Etihad.

Following all the sad news regarding one of the greatest strikers in the Premier era perhaps leaving for another country, Manchester City have announced that they will honor the Kun with a statue outside of the Etihad.

His statue will go alongside Man City legends Vicent Kompany and David Silva – another two outstanding outfielders the EPL has seen leave after leaving a big impression on the English game.
