The FA Cup 5th Round got off to a good start for the Cherries and Red Devils on Tuesday night, with both teams advancing through to the next round at the expense of Burnley and West Ham United, respectively.

Two games played and two teams through, with only one having to be decided after 90 minutes in extra time. Manchester United struggled to put away their chances – the same goes for their opponents, the Hammers.

But in the end, it was Scott McTominay who came away with the winning goal in the 97th minute of the game at Old Trafford – it was his second in his last three FA Cup appearances. United, now still in the running for three major trophies having progressed to the next phase of the tournament.

Meanwhile, at Turf Moor, the Clarets could do nothing with more shots at goal, more possession of the ball, and having home ground advantage meant absolutely nothing for them.

They were outdone by the Championship side, one of four EFL sides left in the competition and who knows a lot about the Premier League big guns left in the cup. They have Sam Surridge and the veteran Junior Stanislas to thank for their victory.

A goal inside the first 21 minutes by the forward and a penalty late in the 88th minute by the always reliable Stanislas was enough to see a trip to the final eight. All they have to do now is sit back and wait to see who their next opponents will be.

Predictions for Wednesday night’s FA Cup 5th Round fixtures

Man City, back in 2019, just about beat the Swans 3-2 in their last FA Cup showdown. However, the form the Cityzens are enjoying appears to be hard to come up against and get a good result – but Swansea will be worthy opponents.

The Foxes welcome a Seagulls side that is unbeaten in their last six outings across all competitions. Both EPL clubs are in fine fettle. It should be one of the more entertaining FA Cup fixtures of the lot.

The Blades have been hard to predict this season – and not in a good way. Bristol City will look to attack one of the worst conceding teams in England’s top flight this season.

Wednesday night predictions

Swansea City 1-2 Manchester City
Leicester City 3-2 Brighton
Sheffield United 1-0 Bristol City
Everton 1-0 Tottenham

Then there is the big one, or the biggest meeting for Wednesday night, Everton versus Spurs. The home side is trophyless for 22 years and the visitors are on a trophy drought since 2008.

No need to explain the importance of this matchup. Both managers want to keep their chances of silverware alive. The duo have fallen out of the race for the Premier League title as City pulls away with each matchday that passes.
