Transfer News: Manchester City appears to have lost Eric Garcia to Barcelona
Eric Garcia’s future at Manchester City has been unclear for many months but all could very clear now following reports he has a verbal agreement with Barcelona to join them in the summer.
Barcelona has been behind him since he made his first appearance for City, maybe they are trying to fix their mistake of letting him go when he was a young player. Now, Barca wants him since their defense has been lacking.
As per Fabrizio Romano, Garcia and Barcelona have a verbal agreement in place for him to join as a free agent in the summer of 2021. The good thing for Barcelona is that no other club has reached a deal with Manchester City, leaving the Spanish giants in the clear to pick him up.
But, Barcelona financially is very unstable and they do not have money to bring in any new players. They have a debt of €1.1 billion, which makes a lot of players unavailable for Barca, no matter how cheap they are.
Fabrizio Romano says that this debt would not interfere in Eric Garcia’s signing but we still have to see if the Blaugranas are able to get one of the most promising center-backs on a long-term basis.

Pep Guardiola has been asked a lot about Garcia’s future but he does not want to comment about it, for him “he is still our player” like he has said in his last press conference.
Garcia fits perfectly into Pep’s playing style and it is difficult to think that he is going to let the Spaniard go for free, even though Garcia has not enjoyed many minutes since the amazing season that Ruben Dias and John Stones are having.
If the transfer does happen, it would be a knock on City’s depth. Dias and Stones are playing very well, but they also need some rest from time to time and in the last few months of the season, injuries always arrive at the Etihad.
The Cityzens are known for injured center-backs, maybe it is a time for Guardiola to start looking for a new center-back in order to gain some more depth at the club.
