Chelsea: Has Frank Lampard lost his post as manager sooner than expected?
Was Frank Lampard’s appointment a waste of time?
Lampard came in and did a massive job in rather testing times for the Stamford Bridge side.
In his first maiden season, he not only secured Champions League football but also unleashed a handful of talented youngsters at Chelsea.
Adding to his bravery to use the youth at the club, Frank had to fight on all fronts without being allowed any new signings in his first season.
The London club was serving their transfer ban which was cut short, allowing them to make transfers for the first time which was last winter, the January transfer window.
Surprisingly, they didn’t make any signings and still achieved top-four which was one of the goals set out for the season but they failed miserably in all their cup attempts.
Their Champions League run ended horrendously in the Round of 16 where they lost 7-1 on aggregate to the team that went on to win it, Bayern Munich.
A fourth-round knockout in the EFL Cup and a runners-up medal in the FA Cup and Super Cup where they lost to Liverpool on penalties.
This evidently displayed the Englishman passed the first hurdle in his Chelsea’s tenure.
But the real test was this season, his second in charge, and the one where he got to add new names to his squad – players he wanted and needed to take the Blues to the next phase.
Apparently, that was a step backwards.
Taking all of this into account, he did an excellent job for an inexperienced manager at the highest level – making him a useful appointment and far from a waste of time.
