Premier League: Is Chelsea’s Frank Lampard the next in line to be sacked?
What has contributed to Frank Lampard’s potential demise?
A big factor contributing to Chelsea’s recent downfall is the manager being unable to unlock the true potential of their most expensive summer signings, Kai Havertz and Timo Werner.
The London club was dubbed to have spent the best, rating their summer as the best of all the clubs in the Premier League. This was at the time all teams were still busy with their summer business – projecting an image that they would stay in and around the summit.
Werner went from one of the best summer additions to being named the league’s biggest flop so far. He has only scored four and assisted four – contributing to no goals in his last five EPL showings.
Supposedly Chelsea’s best number 9, but hasn’t scored in his last nine league games for the club. This is just a prime example of one factor really hindering the Stamford Bridge side from hitting unreachable heights.
Playing them out of position doesn’t exactly help Frank either, or his players. This has been a hot topic since using Timo Werner predominantly on the left-wing and to no effect whatsoever, with Havertz barely being used as a shadow striker – a position he thrived in his time at Bayer Leverkusen.
So why continue to go against the grain with the pair of Germans? Only the manager will know his reasons.
