Let the rumours begin! The January winter window is open and Manchester United are being linked with a sensational move for Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland.
Manchester United, for the last two to three transfer windows, have been linked with a move for one of England’s brightest prospects, Jadon Sancho. During the summer a move was a settlement away but due to a transfer standoff between BVB and United, the move fell through altogether.
Since missing out on the flamboyant forward, his form has dropped significantly. The drop-off in form has seen Sancho contribute to almost nothing this season with only three assist to his name and is yet to register a goal for the German outfit.
He has taken 25 shots at goal, having as few as five hitting the target. Last season he scored a staggering 17 goals and assisted another 16 in the 32 domestic league games he took part it – a huge reason why the English side wanted his signature.
Because of this, United could still go back in for him but at a much cheaper rate. Ed Woodward should be praised for not giving into BVB’s high demands of £100m for Sancho, which now seems an absurd fee for a player unproven in the Premier League.
They could get him for much less after a no-show campaign he is currently undergoing. If Dortmund feels reluctant to budge, United will and are said to have turned their sights on bringing in their previous target, Erling Haaland.
The young forward, who is a prolific goalscorer, has attracted interest from the best of the best thanks to his ruthless goalscoring form. From the Spanish La Liga to the English Premier League, Haaland will be the most-watched transfer between now and next summer.
That’s if no team gains his services during the January window.
Adding to the change in transfer strategy is Man United’s charge in a surprise title-race with Liverpool and other contenders. If they want to mount a serious title challenge, adding somebody of Erling’s quality would help push them over the line, perhaps ahead of their oldest rivals Liverpool.
The Erling Haaland saga is already in full swing

A couple of days ago between the new year and the old one, Emili Rousard Barcelona’s presidential candidate, claimed the Spanish club has agreed to a deal to bring the star striker to the Camp Nou.
Within no time, super agent and the thorn in United’s side, Mino Raiola, responded by calling the claims “fake news”.
He has also made it very clear that he has spoken to no club across Europe about a possible transfer and will only listen to offers from Barca once they sort out their presidential issues.
"This is fake news. I have never spoken of Haaland with any candidate and I will not. When a new president is elected, they can call me. (Via: The Mirror)"
Besides Man United’s links and Barcelona’s big and ‘fake” claims, Real Madrid, Liverpool, and Manchester City have all been strongly linked with arguably the best young striker in the world at the moment.
Since making the switch from RB Salzburg to Borussia Dortmund back in January 2020, he has blasted the back of the net frequently with his prolific goalscoring. He has already scored 33 goals in 32 appearances.
He is only 20 years old!
If Man United want to make him their marquee signing of the current campaign, it will have to be now before the rest of their Haaland competitors gather the funds required for a megabucks transfer for a player said to be valued over a £150m.
