Leicester City news: Jonny Evans extends his stay with the Foxes

Leicester City have extended the contract of their center-back, Jonny Evans, hours before the opening of the January transfer window.
The contract extension and activating extension clauses are in full swing in the Premier League. Teams are chalking out their strategies and course of action for the upcoming January transfer window.
The clubs who are prepping for the exit of their star players on a free transfer have triggered contract extensions in the hope to gain some much-needed funds.
Leicester City have persuaded their defender, Jonny Evans, to pen a new deal. They have secured the services of the former Manchester United defender until the end of the 2022/23 season.
The Northern Ireland international was elated after signing the new contract with Foxes.
Talking to LCFC official website, the player opined:
"I’m absolutely delighted to have signed. I’m delighted to commit myself to the Club, and delighted the Club have committed themselves to me."
Jonny Evans added how impressed he has been by the club and the manager’s ambitions. Also, he is happy with the young and hungry players who are always ready to learn at the King Power Stadium.
"I’ve loved it here since the first day I came in. It’s a great atmosphere around the place and it’s a Club with a lot of ambition. The players are ambitious and the signings that they’ve made over the years, they’ve signed young, hungry players and it’s been great for me to come in alongside that and be a part of it .(Via: LCFC.com)"
The central defender was eligible to negotiate with foreign clubs having just six months remaining on his contract which was due to expire at the end of this season. Thankfully, the club was happy to offer a contract extension for the veteran CB before any suitors came knocking.
Since his arrival from West Bromwich Albion in 2018/19, Jonny Evans has clocked 7853 minutes across all competitions for Brendan Rodgers’ side. He also has 5 G/A to his name across 89 games for the Foxes.
Leicester finds themselves in third place behind Liverpool and Manchester United in the English Premier League standings. Adding to their great domestic run. they have secured qualifications for the Round of 32 in the Europa League where they will face Slavia Prague in February.
