The Red Devil’s boss was placed under scrutiny by Manchester United fans for a static performance against Chelsea.
Many believe Ole Gunner Solskjær should’ve started Donny Van der Beek ahead of Daniel James or Juan Mata.
It is said that Ole should exercise his options in the middle of the park by playing a midfield 4 – DIAMOND of Matic/Fred (CDM), DVB (RCM), Pogba (LCM) and Fernandes (CAM).
Van der Beek is yet to start a Premier League match in his new colours and has only played 59 top-flight minutes so far while scoring 1 goal in that period.
His only starts for Man United came in the Carabao Cup fixtures against Luton Town (78 minutes) and Brighton (full 90 minutes). He then endured a two-minute cameo against Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League.
Solskjaer had highlighted the Dutchman‘s strength in possession as a surefire sign that he is building up to a bigger role at Old Trafford after the 1-4 victory last week against Newcastle United.
"Donny will get his game time. He’s in the group and training and is always neat and tidy. Today, I don’t think he lost it once.He had an impact. But it’s about finding the balance in the team. We won 4-1 today and you’re asking why I didn’t start one of the players. He can have a very big impact on the team and has done well again. DVB failed to make an appearance against Chelsea at the weekend. He was expected to come in late, but Ole didn’t even field his star close to the end of the match.
When asked about not playing Van de Beek, Solskjaer told Sky Sports:
"No, don’t worry about that. He’ll get his games, don’t worry about that. It’s easy to say who should be playing and more difficult to say who shouldn’t."
Donny Van der Beek arrived at Old Trafford for a sum of £39 million (add-ons included). He was the top transfer for the Red Devil’s in the summer and he’s yet to feature in more games.
Garry Neville, former Manchester United captain and fullback, is also quite baffled by his former teammate’s selection while having their most expensive summer transfer watching on from the stands.
"He’s been signed for £40m doesn’t seem to be at the forefront of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans in every game. It’s a bit of a mystery that one. The more he doesn’t start and the more he doesn’t come on the more you’re thinking: Well £40m player ordinarily you’d get him in the team. He must be thinking, What am I doing here? At this moment in time. (Via: Sky Sports)"
Manchester United have scored 9 goals in the Premier League so far this season. Five of those goals have come in the 59 minutes that Donny van de Beek has played.
Should Donny van de Beek start and if so, who should be sacrificed?
