Is it about time for Man United to cut their losses and sell Paul Pogba before it’s too late?

After Manchester Untied’s 6-1 loss to Tottenham before the international break, every player who featured on the pitch for the Red Devils was heavily criticized for their attitudes displayed.

Fans are demanding the sack of the manager apart from stripping Harry Maguire from the club captaincy. However, it is once again Paul Pogba who is under the scanner after commenting on his contract situation and his “dream” to play for Real Madrid.

Talking to the media after the friendly win against Ukraine, Paul Pogba said:

"Of course, every footballer would love to play for Real Madrid and would dream about that. It’s a dream of mine, so why not one day?"

Although he did also mentioned his current club is Manchester United and he will do what it takes to bring the club back to the top. His commitment to the club has always been questioned.

The player joined from Italian outfit Juventus in 2016 for a record fee of £89 million. His contract is set to expire in June 2021 and the club is yet to start talks over a contract renewal.

Pogba currently earns a wage of £290,000 per week and an annual salary close to £15 million. Sadly, his performance does not justify his huge wages, with him failing to live up to the hype.

It is not the first time that the player has shown disrespect towards the club and his liking to Real Madrid. When the player was criticized earlier in the year, his agent Mino Raiola, came in support of him and let it be known the Frenchman doesn’t belong to anyone. He is responsible for himself.

But how long should fans wait for him to revive his form? In 2019/20, Pogba spent most of the season at the hospital after he went under the knife. His best season came under Jose Mourinho in 2017/18 where he had 16 G/A and under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2018/19, where he combined 22 G/A. Ultimately, the midfielder has been hot and cold during his tenure at Old Trafford.

A new contract for the French international would definitely take him at least on par with David de Gea, as he will receive a massive increase in wages. Manchester United have struggled to relieve the highest-paid earners from their wage bill. The club is guilty of paying off high wages to under-performers.

Though it has looked like Paul Pogba‘s form has seen a dip, he has been an excellent player for his national team. Few might say he is not playing with great players by his side or he is playing in a different role, versatility is what the United fans expect from a midfielder.

Patrice Evra, a legend of the club, has always defended Paul Pogba despite a string of poor performances. Evra has criticized everyone on air but the left-back seems to have a biased opinion in Pogba’s case.

With Donny van de Beek and Fred knocking on the door, it is high time that Paul Pogba should be shipped out and make way for the youngsters who deserve the chance, which would be beneficial for both the player and the club.
