There has been no secret in the Hammers desire to lure Burnley’s James Tarkowski to the London Stadium after having three bids rejected for the defender.

Not once, not twice… But three times Sean Dyche has refused to sanction the sale of James Tarkowski to West Ham United.

The Clarets are looking for way above the total the Hammers are putting down on the table, and will not consider anything lower than what they are asking for. The centre back is valued @ £50m by his club.

The East Londoners first two attempts has not even exceeded £35 million, attempting to pay a lump sum of £25m up front and then the rest fo £6m later in their original try. The latest was a £31 million bid that went begging.

More from Burnley FC

"The Hammers are understood to have most recently lodged a £31million offer for the England international, but the Clarets rejected this as it falls way short of their £50m valuation for the defender. It’s understood that £25m was offered by the Hammers up front, with around £6m in add-ons.The east London outfit previously had bids of £25m and £30m turned down for the 27-year-old, who has established himself as a vital part of Sean Dyche’s plans."

One can understand the Clarets’ refusal to sell the defender on the cheap. They are one of the clubs struggling dearly post-pandemic, having to release a number of players following lasts season’s impressive run.

They released 10 players, two of them making big moves to other Premier League clubs. Goalkeeper Joe Hart found salvation at Spurs and Jeff Hendricks found a home in Newcastle. The latter had a thumping start to life at St. James’ Park.

This indicates there is a strict budget at Turf Moor and funds in player sales are important to the club. Having one of the better defensive teams from last season saw their backline’s stock rise, therefore they are unable to let their best players leave on a cheap.

Time to pull out

TalkSPORT further reports, the London club is done and will not return with a fourth and final bid for Tarkowski. They will turn their attention elsewhere as they look to sure up things at the back. Adding defensive qualities is vital to their new campaign.

"This offer was £31m, Simon [Jordan]. We understand here that’s the end of it. They won’t go back with a fourth bid.West Ham have finished with their attempt to lure James Tarkowski. It’s my understanding that the owners are waiting on manager David Moyes to come back and tell them who he wants now. No name has been mentioned as they wait for the manager to make a decision on the next couple of centre-back targets. Having already lost their Premier League opener 2-0 to Newcastle, the time to act is now and not a second must be wasted.
