David Silva’s surprise switch to Real Sociedad has left Lazio’s sporting director disappointed.

It has been acknowledged for a long while now that the 2019-2020 season was David Silva‘s last as a Manchester City player. The attacking midfielder brought to a close a 10-year spell at the Etihad Stadium.

His final season was one of the least rewarding after only roping in one trophy as a Citizen of Manchester. Not the appropriate send-off for a club legend and a player who has enjoyed a trophy-laden footballing career.

More from Manchester City

After the final chance to make it a double and a first Champions League in his lifetime in their shock result when Silva and co. lost to Olympique Lyonnais 3-1, it was time to pack up and jet off for Silva.

Afore this all reports pointed in the direction of Lazio. It was certain and all but announced that the four-time Premier League champ and World Cup winner was on route to west-central Italy to complete his deal after becoming a free agent.

Much to the surprise of us and those waiting at the Leonardo da Vinci International Airport, ready to welcome and transport him to his medical plus photoshoot in his Lazio kit, Silva was on his way to Spain. Jokes on all of us.

Igli Tare was not impressed with the man stating, “I respect David Silva as a player but not as a man”. This emphasis on how close the deal was to being completed for the Serie A club and that not one damn was given by David Silva.

Yet, there have been some words in his defence from his father, who believes there was nothing solid enough to suggest that the Italian club were pulled a dirty in this transaction. His father went on in saying that there was more than one club in contact with his son David, even highlighting the midfielder’s confusion at Lazio’s reaction.

The 34-year-old has now officially left the English Premier League for the Spanish La Liga. According to reports, a two-deal is the agreement penned by the veteran.

Home is where the heart is and the heart will always pull you home. Can we really blame Silva for wanting to go back to his homeland and once again play in the league that put him on the map?
