The Top Flight Mini-League

We cannot do awards without starting at our very own mini-league! Despite a spirited fightback from those in 2nd and 3rd, Jason McDonagh held on to the top and won our league. He took a gamble with a -4 on the final day to bring in Sterling alongside KDB and, while he may have chosen the wrong one for captaincy, he got an exemplary 73 points (-4) to finish on 2428 for the season and in final position 833!

An outstanding achievement to get into the top 1k (better than I’ve ever managed) and one that Jason should be proud of.

The Hare and the Tortoise

As you may remember I was running an experiment this year with 2 separate teams set up, one to chase price rises and form players regardless of the cost, another with the aim of going slow and steady, allowing transfers to pass unused if they were deemed unnecessary.

The Tortoise was the eventual winner of the two, but neither did particularly well, both finishing beyond 1m in OR! The obvious results to take from the experiment being 1) I had a rather bad season that reflected poorly on them both and 2) the ideal management style is somewhere in the middle, probably closer to the Tortoise than the Hare.

I will be running something similar next season. I want to either look at packing a team full of big-money stars versus none at all or focusing on ownership. Look out for more details when we begin to preview next season!
