Barcelona reported on Wednesday that one of their players has tested positive for COVID-19. Thankfully, it will not affect their Champions League preparations.

The club was swift to report that when nine players returned for preseason training, one of them had contracted the coronavirus and tested positive. The player is said to have shown no symptoms and appears to be operating normally with a full bill of health.

The club, however, has taken the necessary precautions in sending the player back home to self-quarantine for the allocated number of days required before being allowed around the rest of the team, club, or anybody for the matter.

This time a name has been handed out to the public. The player himself took to social media to break the news. The Barca man is young Frenchman Jean-Clair Todibo. Adding to the report, the club has made it crystal clear that he who is COVID positive has not been in contact with any players on European duty.

This is far better news than that of Atletico Madrid. They found two positive cases on Monday in their testing scheme. It prohibited them from leaving on their scheduled time for Lisbon, Portugal. They were delayed by a day or more and continued their training program at home in Spain.

Business as usual

The Catalan side is hard at work to claim the only piece of silverware they have left to play for before ending the 2019-2020 season empty-handed. They recently came away with a victory led by the unstoppable Lionel Messi.

The final score on aggregate was 4-2 against Napoli after beating them 3-1 one at the Camp Nou in the last set of fixtures not played at a neutral venue. Now they prepare for their toughest battle to date, a dance with Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

The club cannot have any more distractions such as this and luckily the positive case was not with the camp currently doing their business in the Champions League, gearing up for Friday’s grand show against Bayern.

The Spanish outfit wants this trophy badly as it has eluded Messi and co. since 2014-15. This has been dubbed the one to watch.

Can Barcelona win the Champions League and get their hands on one piece of silverware? Or are we witnessing a Bayern treble coming up?
