David Silva played his last home game for Manchester City yesterday.

As Manchester City relish the ecstasy of perhaps their most memorable Champions League night, a club icon’s spell with the club is on the brink of conclusion. European triumph could yet be the perfect sending off for David Silva – who has played a colossal role in Sky Blues’ emergence as an elite club.

Pep Guardiola, however, is planning for a prolonged success beyond the mini-tournament to decide their CL fate. Going by the suggestions, Manchester City are planning a whirlwind summer of business to set out a statement to their peers in England and abroad.

More from Manchester City

In less than two weeks, Txiki Begiristain has completed two transfer deals in Ferran Torress and Nathan Ake from Valencia and AFC Bournemouth, respectively. With an eye on the future, this summer becomes even more essential as Man City look to form a fresh winning squad which once revolved around the likes of David Silva, Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany, and Yaya Toure.

Phil Foden – dubbed as “the Stockport Messi” – could be an indigenous replacement for David Silva – who decided against extending his stay with Manchester City – which has run for ten seasons. As things stand, the former Valencia midfielder is set for a move to Italy in a few days time.

Garnering interest from La Liga, MLS, and Serie A, the former Spain international has chosen the latter as a new challenge. Silva’s father, too, expressed the admiration of the 34-year-old to feature in the Italian league. “I can confirm that he likes the Italian league and would really enjoy playing in Italy. He told me he could play there until he’s 40 years old”, Fernando said.

Lazio have done a tremendous groundwork to convince David Silva to choose their project and the talks are at a very advanced stage, with a final few details being addressed before the World Cup winner pens his contract – understood to run for three seasons.

"The final details are missing, but afterwards, David Silva will be a new Lazio player. Sporting Director Tare is close in finalizing the deal, as the Spaniard will sign a three-year contract. (Gianluca Di Marzio)"

It is understood that dialogues are on the brink of conclusion and David Silva could be announced as a Lazio player by Monday.
