Nathan Ake is a Manchester City player after completing a move worth £40 million from Bournemouth.

A sad day for the Cherries and a great day to be a Cityzen. The building continues in Manchester while the demolition of regelated Bournemouth commences. It took the Premier League runners-up a couple of weeks to be freed, target players, and execute their business.

The Dutch international becomes City’s second signing for the summer, following Ferran Torres through the doors at Etihad Campus. The duo has both agreed to five-year deals and cost the English club a combined fee of £60,8 million.

"Manchester City have signed Bournemouth centre-back Nathan Ake for £40m.The Netherlands international, who has agreed a five-year contract at Etihad Stadium, described joining Pep Guardiola‘s side as a “dream”."

Great time to move for Ake

The move for the Bournemouth player came at the right time. His price cut in half, literary a 50% discount at what Leicester City was asked to pay last season when they sold Harry Maguire to Man United.

The player in return acknowledges how immeasurable the move is having joined up with one of the best managers in the game. A massive step backwards afforded him the best move forward in his career. Trying to understand why Chelsea didn’t try to re-sign their youth player back gets away from one.

"Pep is a manager admired across the world. What he’s done in the game speaks for itself. The success he’s had is unbelievable and the style of football he plays really appeals to me. (Via: BBC Sport)"

Does Ake add value to Man City?

Most certainly he does. Will Nathan Ake be a starter? With Guardiola opting to go with Eric Garcia and playing a CDM in Fernandinho over John Stone and Nicolas Otamendi in CB, then he should be getting into the starting XI easily.

What he has that fits in seemingly with star defender Aymeric Laporte, he scores goals. He’s always present in the box and alive during set-pieces. To me, City’s search for a proper centre-back partner for Laporte should be over with Ake’s arrival. His time at the Vitality Stadium saw him chip in with 11 goals and five assists.

The threat of Garcia leaving for Barcelona is still high as long as the window is open. Hopefully, Pep can convince him to stay, giving the Spanish boss better options at the back for the coming season and beyond.

With new addition aged 25, Laporte 26, and Garica 19, their future looks brighter. Stones Otamendi will indefinitely play backup to the new guy. The question now remains… Who will be next on the list of incomings? The media has suggested another five players will still join this summer.
