Tottenham Hotspur has been fairly active in the transfer market.

Jose Mourinho would be anticipating a few bold decisions in the summer in a bid to impart his identity to the Tottenham squad – which, still, mirrors their previous manager Mauricio Pochettino.

For Spurs, the changes could start from the backline as the developments paint a picture of Mourinho’s idea of laying the foundations. The departure of long-serving Jan Vertonghen, already, has started the preparations for the upcoming seasons.

Japhet Tangnaga and Toby Alderweireld alongside Davinson Sanchez provide a solid core of central defenders for Mourinho. The contingent would have experienced a major upliftment if Milan Skriniar chose to make a switch to London in a prospective swap deal involving Spurs’ record signing Tanguy Ndombele.

Besides the centre-halves, Spurs hierarchy will have to make a few business deals for wide defenders to provide a thriving spine for Jose Mourinho to work with. At left-back, the imminent departure of Danny Rose means a requirement of an established player to provide an upgrade on Ben Davies.

Since the departure of Kieran Trippier, Tottenham has been very light in the right-back area with Serge Aurier being the only recognised player for that position in the current squad. Despite his propensity for making fatal errors, Jose Mourinho’s mentorship was starting to bear its fruits.

However, the Ivorian could be set for a move to Italy as AC Milan identify Serge Aurier as a prime candidate to bolster their options at right-back as Davide Calabria could be set for a move away from San Siro this summer.

"Milan are focused on bolstering the right-back position this summer. In fact, the Rossoneri have Serge Aurier at the top of their wish list, the Ivorian appeared in 42 matches in all competitions this season for Spurs.Milan have made the initial inquiry to acquire Aurier. (Gianluca Di Marzio)"

The Rossoneri, themselves, are in the rebuild phase as they make gradual steps back towards the pinnacle of Serie A – dominated by Juventus for the past decade. Currently, Milan are placed sixth in the Italian league.

It is believed that Serge Aurier could cost AC Milan in the region of 15 million euros, should they find a breakthrough in negotiations with Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy.
