Atletico Madrid reject Arsenal’s second bid for Thomas Partey

Watching his side making numerous defensive errors during the buildup, Mikel Arteta has identified a defensive midfield as a crucial need this summer, citing the need to screen his back four and providing a reliable output to lay the foundation of his attacking buildup.

Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey has gained Arsenal’s admiration. Given his pedigree, the Ghana international has been available in the market for a relatively cheap figure of 50 million Euros. However, until now, the Gunners have failed in their pursuit due to their financial constraints- which has worsened in the time of the pandemic.

The Gunners’ latest offer of €25m plus Matteo Guendouzi has been rejected by the Rojiblancos, with the Spanish club demanding a full payout of his €50m release clause for the player who has an offer to extend his Atletico contract at the table.

"A bid of €25m plus a player was rejected a fortnight ago and it is understood Arsenal returned with a new offer of the same amount and out of favour midfielder Matteo Guendouzi . This was turned down by Atlético on Monday, with Arsenal having previously indicated they were unwilling to match Partey’s release clause. (The Guardian)"
