Liverpool: Was Adam Lallana a great servant for the Reds
A spell that only lasted for a season and a bit because the club made improvements in management.
After Rodgers’ nearly lifted the Premier League title for Liverpool in 2013/2014 in one of their best title pushes in years (before winning it obviously), Liverpool used the Luis Suarez transfer funds to buy a host of players with Lallana being one of them.
He cost the club £25 million and signed a deal keeping him at Anfield for the long term. It was a maiden season of frustration, to say the least. The season before they were runners-up to Manchester City. Subsequently, they would end in sixth place and were knocked out of the Champions League group stages in their first time back since 2009-2010, as well as a Europa League round of 32 exit.
Lallana would make 27 appearances in his debut season, contributing to eight goals of the club’s 52 for the EPL season. The big move came next and it wasn’t the player transferring over to another club. No, it was time for Liverpool’s owners to adjust things at the top.
Rodgers started the 2015-16 season in charge but lost his job thanks to a poor start. Eleven games played and only four wins from them called the club into action, forcing FSG to relieve Rodgers of his duties as manager of Liverpool Football Club.
In October 2015 entered Jurgen Klopp and the Reds rise to greatness began. Lallana and Klopp, along with the rest of the boys finished a low of eighth in the league standings. The demand and restructuring of the Merseyside outfit were taking its toll.
What came next will never be forgotten!
