FWA Footballer of the Year award mixed reactions for Liverpool skipper
You will never please them all but it has been unanimously seen that no person is happy with Jordan Henderson getting the FWA Footballer of the Year award.
Firstly, congratulations to Jordan Henderson for picking up the award after a fantastic season of football for both him and the club. A watershed campaign that will be remembered for a long time to come, and so will Henderson for being the first captain to lift the Premier League trophy after 30-years of anguish.
The captain picked up his second award after receiving this one and The Anfield Wrap’s ‘Embodiment of Liverpool FC’ award for 2020. The latter was never a doubt while the former was always going to raise eyebrows.
Now, how has the world been taking the news of Hendo’s achievement? Obviously Liverpool supporters think it is deserving and fitting for Henderson while opposing fans think otherwise, believing there were others ahead of the ex-Sunderland man that deserved it over him.
Well, quite frankly, you will never be able to please them all. Fans from rival clubs will never admit when something is due to a player from another club or a team they hate openly heartedly.
Here are some of the reactions from social media on Henderson’s latest footballing achievement.
Starting with the manager, a proud one to be precise. Jurgen Klopp gave the perfect explanation of what the Liverpool skipper embodies… The perfect balance between talent and having a class A attitude.
The ex-skipper concurred the manager’s words by also showing love from day one up until now, day champion.
The Liverpool fans have always had divided opinions about their club captain, but so are they with many players who walk through the doors at Melwood. Again, I repeat, you cannot please them all. Nonetheless, they showed their support in the best way possible, giving the Englishman his very own mural opposite Scouser and wonderkid, Trend Alexandre-Arnold.
Then there are both sides of one publication, ESPN. The good and the bad, showing respect and then the disrespect (I say this in a happy tone while laughing). Clearly shows ESPN don’t know how they want to feel about certain news.
Confused I tell you! Then comes the Kevin de Bruyne comparison and that he should have been the player to take the accolade home. Cry yourself a freaking river. Without Henderson, the team suffered and struggled. With him, they could have been well on their way to an unbeaten season, who knows.
The hate continues…
This was always going to be the case for a player such as Henderson. Not easy on the eye and always not recognised for all the dirty work he does. He has been used by every manager at club level and international, which speaks volumes about him already.
The award could have gone to any of the players outperforming the rest of the league this season and it went to Jordan Henderson. If the award went to Tim Krul or Danny Welbeck this season, then we could have nicely opened a discussion of none deserving and that the awards are rigged.
