Leicester City’s dip in form since the restart of Premier League football has opened the door for other clubs to steal their European spot.

The race is on and it is quite heated between third, fourth, fifth, and sixth place in the Premier League standings. The restart of the Premier League not only signalled the resumption of something normal but brought back all the drama and treachery the English league has to offer.

Some teams kicked off in the same fine form while others found it hard to adjust after a forced break. One such team finding it hard is Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City. Their decline in form has left the back door open for Chelsea, Man United, and Wolves to catch up and potentially steal their Champions League spot.

More from Leicester City

No one predicted this due to the Foxes slaughtering almost every team in their path. They were flying high and it was all about the Vardy party. Sadly it’s ended now following a loss, two draws, and a win since coming back to the field.

But this has not caused the manager to panic. He has “no doubt” his Foxes will hold onto their third place and have found their way back to winning ways after their 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace in the previous matchday.

To touch on Rodgers’ none panic cry, is it really that important for Leicester to make Champions League? Shouldn’t any club competition abroad be seen as a successful campaign?

Is Europa League football a failure?

To me, any European football is an improvement from having nothing at all for the previous three seasons. If they secure Champions League football, it’s a tall order they must achieve and keep up with season after season.

Doing things in stages will help them ease into the demand. Walking before crawling might just take its toll on them all and then things start to fall apart again. The only reason why UCL football is key for Rodgers, it will keep his stars at the club happy.

There will be no threat of them wanting to leave to play in a top competition with another team. With Europa League soccer, everything is 50/50. Some look it as the perfect opportunity to get into the Champions League and gain some silverware. Others see it as the fruits of their failure from the season before.

Arsenal is a big test

Leicester’s next trial is against one of the top six and a club doing far better after the restart. They go up against Arsenal and will be under pressure if Crystal Palace loses to Chelsea in their London derby.

Thankfully, Rodgers can look back on Chelsea’s last London derby and how they came up short, losing 3-2 to West Ham. But if it doesn’t pan out the same, Leicester will start the game off against the Gunners in fourth place and on the back foot already.

Arsenal has won three of five games back in action. Since their Brighton slip-up, they’ve now conceded no goals and have scored eight in the process. This gives the impression this is far different Gunners they face compared to when they beat them 2-0 in the reverse fixture at the King Power Stadium.

We’ve seen Rodgers” bottle it before

Liverpool fans know all too well about the Northern Irishman and his failed attempt at winning the Premier League title. With a similar amount of games left, sitting in the driver’s seat, Rodgers just couldn’t seal the deal, and bring home Liverpool’s first EPL title back in 2014.

The same can be said and seen here. They sit in the driver’s seat. They are still the ones who must get knocked down. They get to dictate the pace. However, again I ask… If Leicester does not make the cut for Champions League football, did they really fluff it up this season?
