Chelsea in defence has been the worst of the lot in the top half of the table.

The Blues have struggled defensively all season long. They’ve found it hard to defend set-pieces and from stopping their opponents in open play. Their very first game should have been an eye-opener to this specific issue.

They lost to rivals Man United 4-0 on the opening day of the Premier League. This was one of many games Chelsea would concede goals in. For entire the season, the Blues have let in 44 goals, the most of all the top sides.

They even topped Arsenal in this department, which is not a good thing considering they sit in seventh place and have replaced their manager halfway through the EPL run due to several bad days at the office.

Only Spurs equal their tally of 44 goals conceded. Another example of them failing to hold together at the back was last week when Everton did Chelsea a big favour.

The Toffees beat the Foxes 2-1, opening the door for Frank to get closer to third place. Worryingly, they lost 3-2 to West Ham, a team who scored no goals since the restart, prior to their meeting on Wednesday night past. This has been the story of the Blues’ campaign.

Every time a door opens for them to guarantee their Champions League spot, they close it on themselves before walking through it. Now, this has left the door open for Man United and Wolves to catch up and close the gap down.

Any other late slips, they will definitely be losing their UCL place. So one has to question their defence and their transfer strategy. Is the London club doing work in the wrong places?
