Chelsea has been the most active in the transfer window but judging by their new incomings, have they been doing the right business?

What to make of Frank Lampard and his Chelsea side in their Premier League run this season? Well, they’ve been absolutely splendid in many ways, to be frank. Many, if not all, had the concept the Blues were about rebuilding and the employment of Lampard was a step backwards from the predecessor, Maurizio Sarri and before him Antonio Conte.

This rebuild would consist of more than one season and one that would see them come short of any European football for the 2020-2021 campaign. A transfer ban and the departure of their best player Eden Hazard to Real Madrid spelt disaster to all. However, Lampard wasn’t haven’t it and established himself as a top contender in the league.

The Englishman has proven time and time again he could be a level above the rest of those from his playing days, who have also tried their luck at managing a club now in the modern era. Yet, his early success and the road taken to get to this point has come into question.

Chelsea going forward

The Stamford Bridge side has been one of the best teams going forward this term. At the time of writing this, they were the fourth-best scoring side with 60 goals for. They fall behind Leicester (63 goals), Liverpool (72 goals), and Man City (81), respectively.

These clubs also sit ahead of Chelsea in the table standings. This proves they’ve done well with their side, even though they the third-youngest squad in the Premier League, averaging the age of 25 to 26-years-old.

Their gameplay has been one of the best. Either stringing together passes from back to front with quality, or playing a more direct game, involving more hold up play. They’ve shown great dynamics and loads of athleticism. So this side of the game is obviously not in question. In fact, it’s the other end.
