English Premier League: Southampton saves the best for last

A super strike from Southampton pretty much sums up Man City’s Premier League season. The ex-champs now nine losses down for the term.

Unlike the title race being concluded quite early, the relegation battle and fight for European football is still far from over. The Premier League’s remaining fixtures still hold many twists and turn before the end, promising to be considerably exciting for all.

Only one clash remains of Matchday 33 and that one comes in Monday night action featuring, Tottenham and Everton. It will be the first meeting between Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti, the two ex-Chelsea managers. Everybody’s waiting to see if Spurs can bounce back from their humiliating 3-1 defeat to Sheffield United, Thursday past.

Best win – Southampton 1-0 Man City

How did they do it? Well, the Saints did it with one moment of brilliance. Che Adams‘ 16th minute halfway line strike was enough to take all the points from the game. The home side was second best for almost the whole 90 minutes.

Opportunities for them came far and few between. The one time they needed to make it count and they did. Adam’s 39-yard match-winning goal was not only the best of the weekend, but it was also the furthest goal scored this season.

This too was another display of why Man City are no longer champions even if they gave the Premier League kings, Liverpool, a 4-0 hiding at the Etihad prior to their Sunday shocker. Means very little to beat one team 4-0 and then the next, lose to a team in the bottom half of the table standings.
