It all started for Ole and his Man United when…

Burnley’s 2-0 humbling of Solskjaer’s troops at Old Trafford called for a pressing need to reinforce the squad with a few days left in the winter transfer window. During the January spell, the Red Devils never looked like scoring as the limited options in attack left them jaded.

Thankfully, a beleaguered United squad felt a breath of fresh air with the arrival of Bruno Fernandes and Odion Ighalo. The coaching staff now had multiple options to shape their tactics and set their starting eleven.

A warm-weather training camp in Marbella during a two-week winter break proved to be pivotal. Solskjaer worked on players’ bonding and made a much-needed physical and tactical reshuffle. Since then, Fernandes has spearheaded Man United’s creative department, averaging a goal/assist every 73 minutes in the Premier League.

Before talking about the progress of the current clutch players, it’s important to assess how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has assembled this group. When the Norwegian presided over a dreadful 4-0 defeat to Everton last season, he defiantly expressed his desire to cull the “superstars” at the club who aren’t committed to his vision.

Since then, Alexis Sanchez, Chris Smalling, Romelu Lukaku, Ashley Young, and Marcos Rojo have left the club. The message is clear – every member has to work hard and prove his worth at the club at all times.

In a bid to build a winning side on the values of his mentor, Sir Alex Ferguson, former striker, and current manager Solskjaer, trusted the upcoming talents Scott McTominay, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Brandon Williams, and others who could be moulded into his long-term vision.
