Anthony Martial
Manchester United thrashed Sheffield United 3-0 in a big match for European qualification, and the win was all about the hat-trick from Anthony Martial. The hat-trick was both the first of his career and the first one for Manchester United since Robin Van Persie’s in 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge.
He got his first early in the game, with a nice one-touch finish off Marcus Rashford’s bullet cross seven minutes in. His second was a similar effort, once again a one-touch finish off a cross from the right, this time coming Aaron Wan-Bissaka. It put United up 2-0 right before halftime.
Late in the game, Martial would finish off Sheffield. After playing a delayed give and go with Marcus Rashford, the Frenchman capped off his hat-trick with a chip over Simon Moore in the 74th minute. The performance takes Martial up to 14 league goals in the season, drawing him level with Rashford.
The win keeps Manchester United in fifth and opens up a five-point lead for the Red Devils over Sheffield in the race for the final Champions League spot. It draws them within two points of Chelsea in fourth, who have a game in hand against Manchester City on Thursday.
