Chelsea: How They Masterfully Hijacked Tottenham’s Willian Transfer
Daniel Levy, Tottenham’s chairman, was under the belief that Chelsea didn’t even need Willian.
He thought Chelsea was scared of Villas-Boas building a squad that would compete with Chelsea. The Blues denied all of it and stated Willian was always a target of theirs.
Tottenham’s management believes Willian had no say in which team he wanted to play for. That it was all Abramovich, Kerimov, and Willian’s advisers who made all of the decisions.
As a Chelsea fan for years, even I agree that Willian was not needed at Chelsea. We already had Eden Hazard, Juan Mata, Victor Moses, Kevin De Bruyne, Andre Schürrle, and Oscar. From here on out, the rivalry became even more intense.
There’s always been bad blood between the Blues and the Hotspurs. Back in 2011, Tottenham Midfielder Luka Modric was on his way out of White Hart Lane. Chelsea’s bid placed was the most at £40 million and far more than any other team.
Modric even had a desire to play for the Blues. But unfortunately, Tottenham was completely against selling to rivals. Instead, Modric was on his way to Real Madrid who bid in the £30 million range.
