The Slovakian – Martin Škrtel

Duration: 2008-2016
Appearances: 319 (All Competitions)
Current Team:  İstanbul Başakşehir

Another tough tackling and somewhat scary-looking defender at times, Škrtel was a dominant figure for Liverpool. Although at first, the primary centre-back partnership for the Reds was Carra and Agger, it was not until later that Agger and Škrtel became the duo due Carragher’s age as the seasons passed.

Škrtel was a great defender when it came to winning aerial duels as well as clearances in the box. Unfortunately, he lacked composure when on the ball. The Slovakian International was your basic defender in a sense that he would get the job done. Between 2010 and 2015 Škrtel went on to play 166 matches and start 163 of them, which meant that he was almost never injured nor benched within those five years.

The ex-Liverpool ace eventually left Anfield and went on to sign for Turkish side Fenerbahçe in 2016, where he spent another three years. He eventually made move to Başakşehir, which is his current club.
