Liverpool had there fair share of good and bad at the back. With van Dijk being called the best in the game who of the past Reds would best suit him as a partner?

Liverpool has always had some decent centre-back partnerships over the years, as well as some bang average ones.

When van Dijk joined Liverpool in the 2017/2018 season, the fans’ excitement was uncontainable. At £75 million, the most expensive defender in the history of football at the time, the Dutchman went on to prove everyone wrong and justified the immense price tag.

Since joining Liverpool, van Dijk has played 81 matches, starting 81 of them in the EPL. Defensively sound, quick off the mark, he can score goals, and play the longball for an assist. The Dutchman is the most complete defender out there.

Currently, Liverpool has Dejan Lovren, Joel Matip, and Joe Gomez, partnering van Dijk in the centre-back position, and while they all have their strengths and weaknesses we take a look at others from the past and see who would complement him best.
