Frank Lampard’s approach in the 2019/20 season.

Frank Lampard has deployed a 4-2-3-1 formation throughout the season, favoring a lone striker leading the line.

Tammy Abraham has featured as the striker in most of the games whenever he was fit. In the absence of the Englishman, Oliver Giroud and Mitchy Batshuyayi have handled the mantle, responsibly.

Under Maurizio Sarri, Chelsea played short passes, whereas now they have a more direct approach under the former Derby County manager, Frank Lampard. The striker plays deep and combines the wingers with the attack.

When the opposition is on the ball, the formation would change to 4-5-1, with the attacking wingers dropping back. When the ball is won, Chelsea will tweak themselves into 4-3-3, exploiting the flanks of the opposition.
