Chelsea players to keep an eye on ahead of summer signings
By Adam Bakr
The Blues have started the race early this window. With all their new incomings, who watches and who plays?
Chelsea is on the brink of completing the surprise signing of Timo Werner. Despite the strong links of him signing with Liverpool, late news that the Reds were unwilling to pay his buyout clause left Chelsea with a perfect chance to secure the German forward.
It’s been a busy return to the transfer market for Chelsea after being banned last summer. They have already secured a deal in January for Hakim Ziyech to join next season, and the Werner deal should be official soon enough.
Both players are versatile, as Werner can play as a striker or left-winger, and Ziyech can play right-winger or drop into the midfield. Werner and Ziyech will still have to prove themselves upon their arrival, but it would not be surprising to see them in the line-up at the start of next season.
The newfound depth will give Frank Lampard plenty of line-up options and may put pressure on some of Chelsea’s current young players to end the season on a good note. With nine games left to play, we look at which players may feel the most pressure to do so and who to pay attention to before the summer arrivals.
