Manchester City recently named Juan Manuel Lillo as Mikel Arteta’s replacement. Pep and Lillo have a past life together but really, who is the new second in command?
Manchester City recently named Juan Manuel Lillo as the assistant manager to Pep Guardiola following the departure of Mikel Arteta.
It is understood that Pep Guardiola has a good relationship with the former Qingdao Huanghai manager. Juan Manuel Lillo has been one of the youngest managers to manage a club in La Liga.
Man City’s new assistant coach has the reputation of taking small sides to the top flight in their respective championships. In 1995, Lillo guided the Spanish outfit, Salamanca, to La Liga promotion.
When he guided Salamanca to the Spanish top-tier, he was just 29-years-old. Apart from managing Salamanca, Lillo has managed the likes of Real Sociedad and Real Oviedo, giving him tons of experience. So he will be no beginner in the Premier League.

However, it must be asked… With all these hours behind him as the manager of a club, you’d think why’s he back to playing small boss to the big boss? Well, at Qingdao Huanghai alone, Lillo as a manager has a meagre win percentage of 37%.
