Leicester City must brace themselves this transfer window. Ben Chilwell is the subject of a transfer battle between Chelsea and Man City.

The Blues of London and the Blues of Manchester are set to lock horns this transfer window for attacking left-back, Ben Chilwell. After an impressive season under Brendan Rodgers, the Englishman has fast made himself a hot target for the big guns in Europe.

Ben signed a new deal with Leicester City back in 2018, extending his stay at the club till 2024. This plus his brilliant 2019-2020 form has upped his transfer value, giving the Foxes a lot of power of his future. Chelsea value the player at £50 million, whereas Leicester will not enter any talks for anything less than £80 million.

Man City are in the market

Besides the left-back being a position needing filling, Pep will be in the market for a handful of players, as they need to replenish their stock at the club. Some are leaving, others are ageing, and some are just not good enough for the Spaniard’s City.

Before Oleksandr Zinchenko suffered an injury that saw him sidelined for a lengthy spell, he was Pep’s go-to guy. A winger transformed into a defensive player is always a risk, yet, not when the Catalan man is involved.

Benjamin Mendy hasn’t even been a shadow of himself after being injured and was dropped by the manager for a number of reasons. After Zinchenko’s damage, he was forced to use the Frenchman at the back. But it is clear to see, Mendy has fallen out of favour.

The only thing hindering this transfer? The fact Man City face a crucial week that decides their Champions League fate. If they are served with the two-season UCL ban, they can forget about any elite incomings. This will put their competitors in the driver’s seat in every transfer situation.

Chelsea making moves

Chelsea has been the busiest behind closed doors. The transfer window hasn’t even opened yet and already they could be two world-class signings down. Hakim Ziyech was the first public announcement and now more recently, the Timo Werner breakthrough.

Once they’ve confirmed the German frontman in all blue, Chelsea will be a couple of signings away from being regarded as genuine title contenders. This is why Chilwell is important to the Stamford Bridge side. They have also struggled in the position and want to fill the void with English talent.

Emerson and Marcos Alonso have been criticised profoundly for not being good enough, even though the latter has come up with the goods in front of goal on several occasions for the Blues.

The most important aspect of this battle we must not forget at all… The pulling power Leicester has over its players. They played hardball with Harry Maguire and increased his total sum to £80m, making him the most expensive defender signing in the game.

If this is anything to go by, Chelsea must show the Foxes the money!
