Tanguy Ndombele has had a nightmare debut season in the Premier League and is now being linked with other clubs, but Spurs can’t give up on him so fast.

One year ago, Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele was one of the most highly sought-after young players in the world, with footballing giants such as Juventus, Real Madrid, and Barcelona being linked heavily with him. After all, he had just come off some mightily impressive performances in the Champions League, and he was all set for a massive summer transfer.

That summer transfer did come, but the Frenchman ultimately joined Spurs, not Real Madrid or Juventus. This came as a shock to many, but it did seem at the time that Spurs were becoming a good destination for players, especially off the back of a Champions League final appearance. Of course, their poor performances this season, along with the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino, has brought them back down to earth.

Ndombele has struggled in his debut season, especially since Jose Mourinho took the reigns at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in late 2019. The vastly gifted midfielder has struggled to adapt to the Premier League, with stamina and fitness issues being the biggest hurdle for him so far.

Now, Ndombele is already being linked with a move away, due to being frustrated with his lack of progress in the England capital. Jose Mourinho has reportedly been very harsh on him, in an attempt to get him back up to speed.

Barcelona seems to be the club linked with Ndombele the most at the moment.

It is imperative that both parties in this situation remain patient because Ndombele has a ridiculous amount of talent that is bound to shine through eventually, and Spurs did invest quite a bit of money into him and his future.

Selling him now would only cause further regret, and it’s best for them to work on a fitness plan this summer that could get him up to par in the Premier League, and then hand him a starting place in midfield next season.

Due to his poor performances, people seem to have forgotten that Tanguy Ndombele is still one of the best young midfielders in the world, who possesses both athleticism and technical brilliance.
