Jadon Sancho set to stay at Borussia Dortmund this summer
Jadon Sancho was initially set to complete a £100+ million move to the Premier League this summer, but COVID-19 has caused his asking price to be too steep.
The best young footballer in the world is Kylian Mbappe, easily. But the 2nd best, well, many consider that to be English youngster Jadon Sancho, who is ripping up the German Bundesliga for a 2nd consecutive season with Borussia Dortmund.
The winger has a whopping 14 goals and 16 assists in 23 league matches this season, highlighting his immense productivity and killer instincts at just 20 years of age.
This newfound stardom has earned the attention of some Premier League giants, as you might expect, especially for an English player playing abroad. The usual culprits, Chelsea and Manchester United, have been linked with Sancho for quite some time now, with Liverpool and the youngster’s former club Manchester City also being linked here and there, although not nearly as often.
A few months ago, Jadon Sancho making a move to the Premier League in the summer seemed inevitable. After all, Manchester United and Chelsea have cash to burn and they are constantly looking for big pieces.

Add to that the fact that Sancho is well on his way to being an English footballing icon, and bringing him in sounds like the best thing ever for an English club.
However, the impact that COVID-19 has made on club finances across Europe is making a deal for Sancho look extremely unlikely, even for these massive clubs that usually spend so much money regardless of the circumstances.
Last week, Manchester United executive Ed Woodward hinted that the club would be forced to tone down their spending this summer. This week, Borussia Dortmund director Michael Zorc has said that the club is “totally relaxed” about Jadon Sancho’s future, with the COVID-19 impact clearly making it more likely for the young star to stay put.
"“Currently no club will risk anything by making a big-money move – not even in England. I can’t and don’t want to go too far out of the window with forecasts because the situation is changing daily. We will see what happens. We have a long-term contract with Jadon Sancho. This will not change now. We are totally relaxed about it.” – Zorc to Sport1"
In general, it seems very unlikely that we will see any gargantuan transfers this summer, exceeding the £100 million mark especially. Clubs will be forced to tone down their expenses to minimize the impact of this virus on their bank accounts.
This could certainly be a blessing in disguise for Jadon Sancho, who we mustn’t forget is playing for a fantastic team in Dortmund and getting great opportunities to shine in Europe and a top 5 league. Leaving that at 20-years-old to join disoriented Manchester United or Chelsea might not be the best move at this stage.
