Louis van Gaal hits out at former club Ajax for using COVID-19 as an advantage
Louis van Gaal had some words to say about his former club Ajax, after feeling they are taking advantage of the current Coronavirus pandemic.
Not all will be labelled heroes during these testing times. With COVID-19 we get see the good, the bad, and the judgemental. Ex-United boss van Gaal has had his say on the matter concerning his previous side, Axaj.
In this situation, it appears the Dutch giants are being painted with the villain brush while Louis is taking the reigns as the hero. Ajax is one club who will benefit if the league or all leagues are resolved as is.
They lead the Eredivisie on goal difference but are on the same points as AZ Alkmaar, who takes second place in the Dutch standings. They have 11 matches left to play. On the opposite end of the table, the relegation fight sees two almost demoted teams, RKC Waalwijk on 15 points in last place, and Den Haag in second-last place on 19 points.
They are 11 and seven points off from trying to regain safety or stand a chance to fight for safety, respectively. So for them, the fight is nearly over but there is that little bit of hope, making it even more impossible to call things off.
This lets us know Ajax is literally the only team that fully benefits from a completed league. This gives the impression van Gaal is not off the mark and has a point. Don’t use this as a “gain” for your own club’s interest.

"Hello! There are more than a 100 people dying daily in the Netherlands because of the coronavirus. If it is established that the coronavirus has been defeated, you first have to finish the current competition.Sports exists to find a winner, not to say after 25 matches we cut things off and Ajax is champion. But while the government has also been following the experts for weeks, some football clubs suddenly say that it is not possible – Ajax first.Clubs that misuse this corona crisis for their own gain and then make it a public health statement. I’m a man who can’t take that. You can also play the season out in June or July. There is plenty of time this summer, the European Championship is off the calendar. And if UEFA and FIFA are willing to change rules and provide space, well then get started. (Via: Sky Sports"
Only one league has the right to end and that is the Belgian First Division A. They have one game left with Club Brugge 15 points clear at the summit. Who is catching them now? Honestly!
The Premier League cannot make a rash decision on theirs even though Liverpool are 25 points ahead of the pack. The rest of the EPL is quite undecided. As stated by the FA Cup winner, there is enough time to end proceedings after the pandemic passes.
Football doesn’t have to be played with fans at the moment. Behind closed doors is the best option to roll out sooner rather than later. Until then, all leagues should align with UEFA and their reluctancy to end all current campaigns of 2019-2020.
Marc Overmars needs to realise these are uncertain waters everybody engages in at the moment. Time is all we have and aiding those in distress is far more important than making a judgment on who wins a top division league or gets a promotion to the centre stage.
