The president of UEFA Aleksander Ceferin has announced over the weekend past “the football season could be lost” due to Europe’s red and high alert on COVID-19.

Are we prepping for the first-ever no completion football season across Europe? The question follows after Coronavirus case counts and death tolls rise around the world, especially in Italy, Spain, and the UK.

This is casting more and more doubt on Europe’s footballing leagues on whether they will kickstart from estimated dates like April 30, or sometime in May. So far, none of these dates looks like they can be met, even with them playing behind closed doors, which is the ultimate goal for all the countries.

The UK has just stated they might see their lockdown extended for about six months, forcing them to rethink their continuation strategy.

More from News

As mentioned in previous and in other posts regarding the ongoing pandemic that sweeps our nations, heads of sporting codes are unwilling to confirm a return date for when they will/can conclude the 2019-2020 season. But is seems president Aleksander Ceferin now believes this could be the time the world witnesses the first incomplete campaign.

"Nobody knows when the pandemic will end. We have a plan A, B or C: to restart in mid-May, in June or at the end of June.If then we wouldn’t be able to do any of these, the season would probably be lost. There is also the possibility of ending this season at the start of the next, which would then be postponed, starting a little later. We’re in touch with the leagues, the clubs, there is a working group and we’ll see what solution is best for all. We have to wait, like any other sector. (Via: Sky Sports)"

No reassurance from Aleksander’s words

No reassurance given by these words and so it would be from anybody’s point of view. Money, jobs, and many other things hang on a thread, including records that were obtained throughout the respective campaigns.

Giving this all up or honouring them in a blink of a decision is a huge burden on one’s shoulders. Damn, spread the judgment out among a group of people, it’d still be the biggest load for anybody to bear.

Although, knowing they have a plan “A, B or C” in place hands over some promise. An outcome will occur. What would you do? Leave things as is and just play the waiting game till it’s safe to go outside? Or make the decision, pull the plug, and deal with the repercussions after?
