Manchester United might be stuck with flop Alexis Sanchez for 2020-21
With Inter reportedly refusing to take on the Chilean permanently, Manchester United could be stuck with massive flop Alexis Sanchez for another year.
Oh, Alexis Sanchez. Imagine what his career would have looked like had he stayed at Arsenal, or better yet, had he chosen a better club than Manchester United to move to back in early 2018. Instead of leaving Arsenal for a more ambitious club like Robin van Persie, Samir Nasri, and Cesc Fabregas did during their time of departure, Alexis swapped one dysfunctional club for another, although he is getting paid handsomely for it.
Many expected the Chilean national team legend to turn his career around with a loan move to Inter Milan to play under Antonio Conte this season, but a serious tendon injury suffered in October derailed that opportunity, along with the COVID-19 football suspension. In total, Alexis only featured in 15 matches for Inter Milan, playing less than 600 minutes.
The Telegraph is now reporting that Inter is not interested in keeping the Chilean permanently, or even for an extra year.
This means he will most likely be back with Manchester United for the start of the 2020-21 season, and with his massive €500,000 a week contract still with over 2 years left to run, he will continue being a massive financial burden unless he magically finds the world-class form he showed for many years at Arsenal.

While it’s nice to imagine Alexis Sanchez back to his best, scoring and assisting goals while doing his infamous knee slide, that would be a massive return to form, and one that doesn’t really seem entirely possible. It’s sort of like imagining his once lethal Arsenal attacking partner Mesut Ozil all of a sudden starting to provide 20 assists a season again. At their age, and at their current level, it just doesn’t seem possible for them to reach that again.
With that in mind, it does seem likely that Manchester United are stuck with the massive flop Alexis Sanchez for next season unless they can somehow manage to loan him out again, or better yet, find a way to sell him.
With COVID-19 causing massive financial issues for clubs around the world however, those salaries will not look pretty to any interested club…
