The Premier League has reportedly come up with a plan to wrap-up the 2019-20 season in July behind closed doors, as an answer to the COVID-19 situation.

We haven’t had any new football to discuss for a few weeks now, and this has led to the internet debates to largely be made up of potential solutions for the ongoing COVID-19 crisis in the context of league football. We aren’t discussing Kevin de Bruyne’s performance last weekend, or Jose Mourinho’s latest antics, but instead, how the Premier League should choose to tackle this postponement.

Some have suggested cancellation of the season, which seemed an absurd idea a few weeks ago but now gains possibility as each day of this worsening global situation passes. Some have suggested ending the season and basing it off of the current table. Others have simply held onto the hope that the Premier League season will find a way to wrap up somehow.

Well, the Premier League has reportedly come up with a plan to finish the season in July behind closed doors. Most clubs have just 9 matches to play, and while playing all 9 matches in a single month would be a bit hectic, especially after a long break, it is fully possible. Most clubs play a similar number of matches in December of each season.

The Premier League has been noticeably very determined to finish the season, which has been met with much criticism from the public.

While other leagues continue to focus on player and fan safety, the Premier League has only really been looking for ways to complete the season, when it seems like this is the last issue to solve for other countries.

Despite this, it’s good to hear that July is the targeted completion month, as it is still a while away. However, this situation could continue to get worse, and the Premier League may be forced to come up with a conclusion without playing more matches.

This could mean that Liverpool could lose out on a Premier League title, while clubs in the Championship and lower divisions could miss out on deserved promotion. We will simply have to play the waiting game and see how things play out.
