Some excellent news has hit us this week – Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Chelsea youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi have both recovered from COVID-19.

While most of the news we have been receiving on a daily basis these days has been disheartening and worrying, we did get a bit of good news to counter the bad news in the world of football this week. Mikel Arteta and Callum Hudson-Odoi, who were among the first in the football landscape to contract COVID-19, have now both officially recovered from the virus.

The diagnosis of these 2 came within just a few hours of each other, and sent the footballing world into a frenzy – especially as the Premier League was actually planning on playing matches with full capacity crowds just a few days after. Of course, everything has moved rapidly since then, and the idea of playing matches seems unthinkable at the moment.

Arteta was announced to have recovered earlier this week, while Hudson-Odoi’s recovery took a little bit longer, being announced today itself.

The Arsenal boss, in particular, has been extremely vocal ever since his recovery, doing many interviews and even answering questions from fans:

"“You realise, ‘wow, everybody can be exposed here, this is very serious’ and you start to think about the people that you’ve been in contact with and the other people that can be related to us. That’s when a bit of fear comes.” – Mikel Arteta on his diagnosis"

As for Hudson-Odoi, he hasn’t personally spoken out about his experiences with the COVID-19 virus just yet, but his manager Frank Lampard did comment on the matter briefly:

"“I spoke to him throughout that first week when he first got the illness and it was a strange time…Thankfully he didn’t suffer too much and we are happy he’s come through this.”"

It’s great news that both Arteta and Hudson-Odoi have recovered, helping ease some of the worries on the minds of those in the footballing world. There is a long way to go before things are back to normal, but little victories such as this always help lift the mood.
