Liverpool should (obviously) still be given the Premier League title

There’s a chance we have seen the last kick of a Premier League football for 2019-20 due to COVID-19, but Liverpool should be given the title regardless.

These are tough times for us all, whether you’re speaking about it in the context of being a football fan, or just a human being in general. Most of us are stuck at home, with no football to watch, and plenty of worries in our head.

For the sake of misinformation, let’s not discuss COVID-19 in-detail and instead speak of it in the context of football, and how it has disrupted the seasons across virtually every continent. While many clubs worry about how their season could end following the disruption (especially clubs battling for survival, European places, or league titles), Liverpool fans in particular are the ones that seem to be the most worried by what this delay could mean for their club.

It has been exactly 30 years since Liverpool last won the title, back when it was the First Division and not the Premier League, and they have been on course to end their drought all season long. In fact, the Reds only needed 2 more wins to seal their historic title – until coronavirus came around, of course.

Now, there is significant talk of the Premier League season being scrapped completely, and from some notable people as well, including the West Ham hierarchy.

But let’s get this straight – it’s absolutely unfair to call a season void after playing more than 3/4th’s of the season already. Who would be relegated? Who would be promoted? Who gets the European places? These are questions all looking to be answered by the FA and the Premier League in the coming weeks, but regardless of what their solution is, one thing has to stay the same:

Liverpool has to be given the Premier League title.

It’s the only fair thing to do. Their season has been historic, and they could very well be considered the greatest Premier League side ever, even if they lost once. There are many different solutions that could be proposed, but any solution that suggests this season be written off completely is foolish. Too much work, money, and dedication have gone into this season for that to happen, from everyone involved in football – even the fans!

It almost seems like fate that Liverpool of all clubs would be caught up in this uncertainty despite being arguably the most certain Premier League winners ever, but these things are unavoidable, and it’s important that the safety of every single human is kept as the first priority – those at Liverpool and every sane Reds supporter understands that, no matter how frustrating or painful this process is for them. They deserve respect for that too.

Next. Real Madrid will want Sadio Mane this summer. dark

So as we all put our heads together to think of ways to wrap up the season, Liverpool will simply be wondering whether they will get their hands on the title or not. All things considered, the only fair solution to the season will be Jurgen Klopp holding the Premier League title – even if he’s doing it from his living room.
