3. Moussa Dembele, Lyon

In his second season in Ligue One, this 23-year-old Frenchman has been ruthlessly surgical with the ball by knocking sixteen goals into the back of the net. This puts him third in the league in goals.

His npxG is only 7.44, which makes his conversion rate in open play -4.56.

Dembele is a pure center forward and his job is to score goals. His npxG+xA/90 and xGChain90 both sit at 0.38 indicate he is not heavily involved in the build-up of play. In comparison, Mbappe is primarily a center-forward but has played all forward positions. His npxG+xA/90 and xGChain90 scores are 1.57 and 1.68 respectively.

This difference may be more of a product of the quality of teammates around Mbappe at PSG versus Lyon. However, this is not meant as a critique.

Dembele is a pure lethal striker and with a current market value of $44 million, according to Transfermarkt, no wonder he has been linked to transfers to Manchester United and Chelsea.

With all this said, Dembele has not transferred his league productivity to the Champions League this campaign as he has gone goalless in seven appearances.
