After going unbeaten throughout the entire season, Liverpool have finally lost in stunning fashion, with Watford putting 3 past the champions-elect.

For the last few months, one of the biggest debates engulfing the Premier League, and more specifically its fans, has been whether Liverpool would go unbeaten through the entire season or not.

Of course, the only team to go unbeaten in the English top-flight in the last 130-odd years was the great Arsenal team of 2003-04. The fact that Liverpool were considered good enough to complete this immense feat is reflective of how talented and determined this team is, led by brilliant manager Jurgen Klopp.

While the debate has been pretty much 50/50 between Premier League fans over the last few months, the argument was surprisingly put to rest on Saturday, as Watford put in the performance of the lifetime to stun Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool team at Vicarage Road.

By the time the clock was ticking down in the 2nd half, it almost felt surreal – like you were in a dream. Here is Liverpool, who have not lost a Premier League game since January of 2019, down 3-0 to Watford, who started the day in 19th place in the league – battling desperately for relegation. If anyone out there put money on Liverpool losing this match, you can probably go ahead and quit your job now!

The match was quite balanced in the 1st half, but it was after the break where things got ugly for the Reds and ecstatic for the Hornets. It was the Ismaila Sarr show on the night, as the young Senegalese winger ripped through the Liverpool midfield and backline on multiple occasions, scoring the opening 2 goals of the match in the 54th and 60th minutes to really put the Reds to the sword.

Troy Deeney scored his first career goal against Liverpool in the 72nd minute to really put the game to bed.

As you already know, it was an uncharacteristic performance from a fantastic Liverpool team, but there have been signs of them slowing down recently. A loss to Atletico Madrid and narrow wins over Norwich and West Ham have pretty much proved that this team is very much starting to stutter a bit. Luckily for them, they already have the Premier League title on lock – but this may cost them in the Champions League.

Liverpool are still going to be crowned Premier League champions, barring some hideous collapse. They may very well go down as one of the best Premier League teams ever, if not the best, but they will have to win it with at least 1 loss on their 38-game record – something only Arsenal 2003-04 are alive to say they avoided.
