7. Sergio Aguero, Manchester City

Let’s put recent off the pitch club news aside. You can say what you want about Manchester City, but Sergio Aguero is a Cityzens legend. He is getting a statue in front of City of Manchester Stadium at the end of his career. In nine seasons in the Premier League, he has 180 goals. The thirty-one year old Argentine is second in the league in goals with 16 and his xG is fifth at 13.25, making him still a solid finisher.

6. Kevin De Bruyne, Manchester City

As Manchester City’s 2019-20 season is turning into fifteen-day old tuna left in the sun somewhere in southwest Virginia, one wonders what the future will bring for the 28-year-old midfielder who is considered one of the best in the world at his position. Per Transfermarkt, his market value sits at $165 million. He has been most known for being an assists man (16 assists in the Premier League), but he is a clinical finisher as well. The Belgian has eight goals and an xG of 4.95, which just goes to show that from his position he is incredibly clinical with the ball either shooting or passing.

5. Harry Kane, Tottenham

I am going to say something that is going to make people want to throw their devices out a window.

Harry Kane is going downhill.

I hate to say it, but the numbers back it up. The twenty-six year old English international is still world-class. He is sitting on eleven goals in the Premier League with an xG of 7.9 making him an incredible finisher.

However, the injury bug is getting to him. At his current pace, due to injury, he will have his lowest goal count since the 2014-15 season. His previous lowest goal haul was last season, which was also plagued with injury concerns. His xG and xG per 90 minutes have gone down each of the past two seasons since he scored 30 goals for Spurs in 2017-18, per FBref.com.

He is a center forward in a Jose Mourinho system, which may also result in different production levels as well. Nevertheless, he is still a world-class player and if anyone can hush up critics it may be this dude.

4. Jonjo Shelvey, Newcastle

Who?

Not so long ago, I wrote about how the Magpies somehow come up with ways to gets goals out of nothing and grind their way to results when it seems all is lost.

27-year-old midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is an example. He has scored five goals in the Premier League this season. However, his xG is 1.08, which means that through a combination of grit, clinical finishing, and maybe “luck”, he has gotten something out of nothing. His whole team has been doing this type of thing all season. Jonjo is on pace to match or exceed his career-high in goals of 6, which was when he played for Swansea City in 2013-14. At the end of the day, his conversion rate of turning expected goals into actual goals is fourth in the Premier League.

On another note, he is bald. He does not need to take part in the “Pep Bald Head Challenge.”
