From Wayne Rooney to Son Heung-min, the FA Cup was filled with late drama and after-hours heartbreak. Newcastle took part in one of three fixtures to go into extra time.

Liverpool 1-0 Shrewsbury Town

The boys are turning into men in Liverpool. A show worthy of a sold out Anfield Stadium took place a couple of nights ago. Not only did they hand their manager a broad smile heading into the fifth round, but they also demonstrated what talent the Merseyside club is filled with.

The own goal scored by Ro-Shaun Williams (A marvellously placed header by the ex-United player might I add) in the 75th minute of the clash was enough to see them march on into the next round.

The celebrations alone showcased exactly what it meant to be the youngest ever Liverpool side, with the youngest ever captain at 19-years-old, Curtis Jones, and win when doubted massively.

Oxford United 2-3 Newcastle

One of the high-scoring entertainers, as well as one of the three to go into extra time. Newcastle knocked out the EPL killers, Oxford United and it wasn’t an easy task.

A truly strong, and not afraid to score lower league club they are. Allan Saint-Maximin‘s 116th go-ahead goal was his first of the game and the only goal scored during the games over time. It was enough to see them escape a penalty shootout.

The 94th-minute goal from Oxford’s Nathan Holland served as a turning point in the game, however, Steve Bruce‘s side came out strong and kept pushing for a result, which they got in the end.

Tottenham 3-2 Southampton

These two sides have kept us on the edge of our seats in every meeting this season. There have been three meetings between the duo, including this FA Cup fixture. They have scored nine goals across these encounters with Spurs winning two of the three.

Jose’s quest to secure some silverware this season is seeing a strong push as we reach the final bend before the home stretch. The Saints lose any shot at a trophy after their exit. Only positive to take from this, both Shane Long and Danny Ings scored, with the latter still showing excellent form.

The biggest and most heartbreaking moment of the round, the replay, and the entire FA Cup to date, the loss of Southampton’s rising midfielder star, James Ward-Prowse, who suffered an ugly injury. Wishing him a speedy recovery as EURO 2020 approaches.
