Chelsea’s right-back Reece James has signed a contract extension until 2025, as the 20-year-old Englishman continues to grow into his potential.

The young English revolution has begun at Stamford Bridge this season both on the pitch and in the technical area, as Frank Lampard, in just his 2nd season in top-level management, has given key roles to some top-class Chelsea youngsters.

One of those fantastic young talents is Reece James, who has now made the transition to Premier League football and is thriving in the right-back position for Chelsea.

Now, the Blues have handed James a bumper contract which will extend his deal until July 2025, as he looks set to become a long-term fan-favourite at Stamford Bridge.

As a right-back, James is the full package, blessed with a dominant physique paired with a wand of a right foot, making himself difficult to get past, and dangerous when in a position to cross.

Looking into England’s future, it’s going to be seriously tough to ask their manager to pick between Trent Alexander-Arnold, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Reece James for the right-back spot. It’s likely that one of these players will continuously miss out on the 23-man squads as well.

"“It has been my dream to be here at Chelsea and play week in week out and to have a contract for another five-and-a-half years is living the dream again.“I have always wanted to be here and another five-and-a-half years means a lot to me and a lot to my family.” – Reece James via Chelseafc.com"

Since the age of 6, Reece James has been a part of the Chelsea academy, progressing through the ranks until breaking out of his shell on loan with Wigan last season, where he clearly impressed the Chelsea staff, who have now incorporated him into the first team. For a few years, Chelsea were struggling with their right-backs, testing out the likes of Victor Moses, Davide Zappacosta, and Cesar Azpilicueta in the position, with none of them particularly succeeding in a back 4 system.

Now, with Reece James having the position on lock, Chelsea don’t have to worry about their right-back spot. The English star has everything needed in his locker to shine at the highest level for the foreseeable future.
