The question is… Does United need a potentially world-class player or a well-established world-beater?

United are missing a playmaker, a player who goes and takes the game to the opposition. A box-to-box midfielder that has all the qualities of passing with their eyes closed, long and short-distance shooting, reads the game in his sleep the night before and carries the team on his back.

The only worry for United is that they have to cough up large funds for whoever they choose to take up the abandoned position when Pogba leaves. The questions they really need to be asking is, how much more than £50m-£60m more than want to pay for a new player?

Nevertheless, with all being stated, beggars can’t be choosing and have to take what they get, and work from there. If they find a top-quality young player they can build around, and a player who wants to be at the club, the project will become a lot smoother.

Who could these players be…

  • James Maddison (23) – 57 EPL Games – 13 Goals – 10 Assists
Yes, it is looking more and more certain James Maddison will be signing a new deal with Leicester City, and is enjoying his time under the supervision of Brendan Rodgers. But if they serious about competing, this is the man they must get and break bank for. Premier League experience counts heavy in his favour, as well as being an Englishman.
  • Youri Tielemans (22) EPL Games 34 – 6 Goals – 7 Assists
Another Leicester player. If you can’t get the one, try to get the other. They need to find a player the team can be constructed around. He has already proved he’s got the all the tools United need. They should try another attempt to get him after failing last summer.
  • Saul Niguez

The Spaniard’s name has popped up before but nothing really materialised from the rumours in the first place. He has established himself as a trustworthy player who always starts for

    Diego Simeone

. It would be almost impossible to get him away from Atletico Madrid. However, he has bags of experience and is ultimately the best choice to take over from Pogba.

Next. Arsenal don’t have much without Aubameyang. dark

  • Sergej Milinkovic-Savic Serie A Games 145 – 25 Goals – 18 Assists
He has been at Lazio playing in the Serie A for seven seasons. He has no Champions League experience. So it could be a bigger risk than the rest but there is no doubting his talent. He was one of the most talked-about Serbians last summer, as was a move to United rumoured. To persuade him to leave Lazio wouldn’t be too difficult. Could possibly be the easiest buy of all the names mentioned.
