The festive season has ended. Almost everyone’s trees and lights have been put away for a long hibernation.

We’ve reached the halfway point in the Premier League. It’s now time to take a hard look at where things stand. Here are the top five teams in the league right now.

Honorable Mention: Wolverhampton Wanderers

Every commentator seems to be talking about how many matches the Wolves have played this season even though they have had the same schedule congestion as all the other teams in European competitions. The difference for Wolves is that this is a new experience for them.

They qualified for the Europa League this campaign and struggled to figure out how to manage their line-ups through all the competition matches. Wolves sit 7th in the table and looked like they were moving into top 4 range after winning against Norwich and Manchester City.

Then they struggled for goal opportunities against Liverpool and Watford, losing both. It would help them to get some added bodies this month, but appear unlikely to do so.
