EPL clubs should be all over the Manuel Neuer situation at Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich has added a new stopper to their roster in the shape of Alexander Nübel. Why are Premier League clubs not working hard to get Manuel Neuer‘s signature?
A few days ago it was confirmed that Alexander Nübel will join up with German powerhouse Bayern Munich after agreeing on a deal to register at the end of the season. Like Neuer, he will join from Bundesliga outfit, Schalke 04.
"FC Bayern Munich will sign Alexander Nübel for the 2020/21 season. The club and Nübel have agreed the terms of a transfer in the last few days. The 23-year-old goalkeeper’s contract with FC Schalke 04 expires on 30 June 2020. Nübel will join FC Bayern on a free transfer for five years on 1 July. The two is said to share similar qualities as goalkeepers. With Manuel Neuer in the latter years of his footballing career at the age of 33-years-old, he will play second fiddle to incoming Alexander Nübel. This has made the current number 1 hesitate on signing a contract extension with the club.
It is being reported, the World Cup winner is waiting to hear who the club will employ in the coaches position. A position they’ve struggled to fill since the great Jupp Heynckes retired. If these are the conditions, why are none of the top-six in the English Premier League trying to get one of the world’s best stoppers in their ranks?
Premier League top-six clubs
Neuer’s quality should make him a top prospect for most clubs, especially those struggling in the Premier League, defensively. Yes, his age of 33-years-old is something to consider but we all know, keepers become excellent with age.
Hugo Lloris, Bernd Leno, David de Gea, are all joint first with two errors leading to goals this season. Adding to this, these clubs boast some of the worst defensive records this season. Of the aforementioned, Hugo and de Gea have the most errors leading to goals in the EPL.
The former sits in sixth place with 18 goals coming from errors, while the latter sits in 15th place and brags a total of 12 goals let in from dubious mistakes. This clearly displays the need for a keeper of Manuel Neuer’s talent.
