Chelsea’s form has been dipping lately, and with their transfer ban lifted, the Blues are looking to raid the Bundesliga in January for Werner and Sancho.

It’s been a hot and cold season for Chelsea in their first campaign under club legend Frank Lampard’s management. While the Blues maintain 4th place in the Premier League due to an emphatic start to the league season, which is a better position than many expected them to be in, they’ve been poor over the last month or so, and periods of immense form for young players such as Pulisic, Mount, and Tomori have come to a halt.

Now, Chelsea are in danger of letting their strong position in the league fade in a heartbeat, but they won’t go down without a fight. Their transfer ban, which tarnished their summer window, has been lifted, and now Lampard and the higher-ups at Stamford Bridge have their sights set on a big splash or 2 in the January transfer window.

They’re currently being linked heavily to 2 of the best Bundesliga players – Leipzig’s Timo Werner and Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho.

While Werner would be an excellent addition, the continued success of Tammy Abraham might put a damper in that deal for the time being, as the Blues already have a reliable #9. Along with that, Leipzig are also sitting pretty atop the Bundesliga at the moment, and it seems unlikely that Werner would abandon them mid-season, especially when the future looks so bright under Julian Nagelsmann.

However, Werner is rumoured to have a release clause in his contract somewhere between £25.6million and £51.2 million, according to the Telegraph, and a price so modest for a player at his level might just be too good to pass up.

Jadon Sancho, on the other hand, looks like a far more likely option for Chelsea. First off, he is from London and is an England international too, of course, which means that Chelsea will likely be an attractive option for him. Second of all, since Willian and Pedro are coming to the end of their careers, at least at Stamford Bridge, there is a clear place for another first-team winger – and who better to fill it than one of the best young wingers in the world?

Now that Dortmund have signed Erling Braut Haaland, they may have the room to send Sancho onto bigger and better things, and Chelsea will be hoping that means them.

A transfer for Sancho would almost certainly break the £100 million mark, which would be a club-record fee. But for a player of his calibre and potential, who also happens to be an English player from London, that price tag seems right on the money.
